Highlighting Social Causes Close to Our Hearts
At Nosto, we’re not just obsessed with ecommerce: we strongly stand by making a positive difference both in and out of the office. Our team members span across several countries – but our dedication to supporting initiatives close to our hearts is one of the many ways we bridge that physical gap.
As two of our team members prepare to support a universal cause, they shed some light on why the challenge ahead is so important to them, and how others can join in solidarity no matter the distance.
Kelsey Burnes, Marketing Manager (North America)
“This past January, at the age of 28, a friend of mine was diagnosed with a very rare form of breast cancer that only affects 3-5% of the 320,000 women diagnosed with breast cancer each year. In support of my friend, I will be participating in Cycle for Survival NYC.
Cycle for Survival signature events are held in 16 cities across the US. Cancer survivors, patients, caregivers, doctors of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, researchers, and their supporters ride together on stationary bikes to raise money to fight rare cancers. In 2018, more than 34,000 people participated in this event.
Rare cancer patients make up about half of all people fighting cancer, but they often have limited or no treatment options because rare cancer research is drastically underfunded. Cycle for Survival raised $39 million in 2018—more than $180 million in over a decade. Every single dollar is directly allocated to rare cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center within six months of the events.
Together, we ride so rare cancer patients can live longer, better lives. 100% of every dollar raised has been invested in research led by Memorial Sloan Kettering—and together we are revolutionizing the way cancer is diagnosed and treated.
Together, we will beat rare cancers.”

“Similar to many of my friends, family and colleagues, I’ve struggled for years with balancing life so that I can have a positive impact on society, meaningful relationships and, yes… an income. I wanted a way of living up to my values and doing good, but still be able to have time for my friends, family, sports and my job.
Sports and wellness has always been close to my heart. Last year I learned about Team Rynkeby, a Nordic charity cycling team that cycle every year from the north of Germany to Paris, France – a whole of 1,200 km to raise money for critically ill children across Northern Europe. I was both scared and excited to participate; after all, 1200 km is a long freakin’ way to pedal!
Last year, 5,100 sponsoring companies joined the cause, raising 9.4€ million that was donated directly to local organisations that help children with critical illnesses. In 2019 we will be 2,100 cyclists and 500 additional volunteers divided into 54 local teams coming from Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway, the Faroe Islands, Iceland and Germany.
I wanted to be a part of this movement, and with a little nudge from my friends and family (and a much appreciated sponsorship by my Nosto family), I took the leap, applied and was accepted as one of the cyclists taking part in the journey this year!
And what a journey it will be. It’s only been two months of rigorous training so far with 7 months to go until THE TOUR, but the people I’ve already met – cancer survivors, parents, children, people cycling for loved ones, sports fanatics, young, old, short, tall, in ALL ages – and the energy I’ve already felt is something so magical that I cannot wait to be a part of the yellow flood of 2,100 cyclists cycling into Paris the first weekend of July 2019 – all for the children.”
